Background
The Childwickbury Arts Fair is an incredibly vibrant annual event hosted by Christiane Kubrick in the beautiful surroundings of her estate in Childwickbury, St Albans. The central theme is 'Fine Art and Music in the Making', and the fair features live displays, performances and activities throughout the three busy days.
Objectives
With participation an important factor in the popularity of the fair the old brochure format of the site had become dated. Our objectives were to create a web site as vibrant, inviting and inclusive as the fair itself. The site should become an extension of the fair, allowing people to get involved beforehand and remain involved afterwards through online activities and forums.
Solution
We extended the arts fair brand to include a new secondary graphic, which became a central motif in the web site. Combining this with a new online colour palette and an 'illuminated' background gave the vibrancy we needed to do the fair justice.
The content of the site changes leading up to the fair, through the event itself, then afterwards. In the run up to the fair an online payment facility is added, allowing people to book and buy tickets for the evening concerts. After the fair galleries and video footage are added, so visitors can return and remember the day, or share is with others.
The site also includes an inspiration forum (popular with school parties) allowing participants to share their ideas.
