Gaming mag for Asda Mums
15 July 2008
The Observatory, Milton Keynes, UK
August sees the launch of Asda Games Magazine, a high quality reviews-based quarterly free publication aimed at building on Asda's strong position in games retailing in the UK. The magazine, designed and produced by marketing specialists Creation Agency, is squarely aimed at the family market rather than experienced gamers.
Why a gaming magazine from Asda?
Asda are extremely strong in the gaming market, particularly in family gaming. There is a knowledge gap in the typical Asda Mum's audience, and a desire to help educate the audience so they can make informed buying choices. Conventional gaming magazines have little relevance or appeal to this audience.
Asda has a strong sales growth plan over the next 3 years with family gaming a key area. Asda Games Magazine is a key innovation in supporting this growth by offering uniquely targeted information and advice to the core Asda Mum's market.
What does Asda Games Magazine offer?
It has the largest circulation of any games magazine publication and offers a direct interaction with the Asda shopper. Issue 1 has 2 million copies printed with issue 2 having a potential circulation of 3 million.
It's a quarterly publication. Issue 1 has 36 pages and there is flexibility to increase this for future issues. The first issue is available in the August Asda Magazine as an insert.
A true magazine look and feel with:
• Features, reviews, previews, competitions (with a laptop, Wii, DS and games as prizes in issue 1) and news on what's in store.
• All content written for the audience of Asda families
• A guest reviewing family in each issue, and Asda store colleague reviews for each game
• Accessories and hardware focus with informative copy
The magazine also provides in-store Asda colleagues with immediate sales information on stocked products, including recommended titles, screen visuals and clear ratings. It increases brand awareness through educating both customers and colleagues on titles and hardware platforms.
The magazine is part of a wider Asda Games First initiative which includes new ranges in-store, new fixtures and more space dedicated to games.
